Resurfacing Patient Care Instructions

Pre-Treatment Instructions

  • Stop using retinols or active skincare at least 3 days prior to treatment.

  • Avoid sun exposure at least 2 weeks prior to treatment. Any sun exposure will result in a delay of treatment.

Post care instructions

  • You should use a cold compress wrapped in a soft cloth if needed, for 10-15 minutes each hour for 4 hours. Continue to use the cold compress as needed for discomfort. Showers are permitted. Gently pat dry with a soft cloth. Do not rub with a towel or washcloth because the area is extremely delicate while healing.

  • Keep the area hydrated with the skincare products provided to you by your provider.

  • Makeup may be used after the treatment area swelling has subsided and there is no epidermal bleeding. It is recommended only new makeup is used to reduce the possibility of infections.

  • The treated area is extremely delicate and must be handled with care during the initial healing phase (7-10 days). It may take a few weeks, after bruising or scabs disappear, for you to notice the fading of your lesions.

  • Use a chemical free sunscreen of SPF 25 or higher 7 days after treatment then continue use at all times after the treatment.

Things to avoid

  • Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds for 6 months and through the course of the treatment as to reduce the chance of dark or light spots.

  • Avoid tweezing, waxing, bleaching or chemical peels during the course of treatments.

  • Do not use any irritants such as Retin-A, Benzoyl Peroxide or Astringents for 2 weeks.

  • Avoid picking or “popping” any blisters on the treated skin to achieve your best results.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise and massage for one week.

  • Avoid any trauma to the skin.

Post Treatment Symptoms

  • You will experience redness and bruising for at least 5-14 days after treatment. Redness can last up to 6 months.

  • It is normal for the treated area to feel like sunburn. Moderate pain may need over the counter pain relief or prescription.

  • Discharge from the treated areas is to be expected and should clear after one week.
