Photofacial Patient Care Instructions
Pre-Treatment Instructions
Stop using retinols or active skincare at least 3 days prior to treatment.
Avoid sun exposure at least 2 weeks prior to treatment. Any sun exposure will result in a delay of treatment.
Post care instructions
Immediately after the treatments, you should apply an ice pack, as there may be mild swelling. It is normal for the treated area to feel like a sunburn for a few hours.
Makeup may be used after the post-treatment swelling has subsided, unless there is epidermal bleeding. It is recommended to use new makeup and applicators to reduce the possibility of infection.
Keep the area moisturized, any moisturizer without alpha-hydroxy acids will work.
You may shower directly after the procedure in tepid water. The treated area may be washed gently with a mild soap. Skin should be patted dry and NOT rubbed.
Things to avoid
Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds for 1 month and throughout the course of the treatment to reduce the chance of spotting pigment change. Use sunscreen SPF 30 or higher at all times throughout the treatment when going outside.
Avoid hot tubs, hot showers, and saunas for 24 hours after treatment.
Avoid exercise or strenuous activity for 24 hours.
Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin to achieve your best results.
Do not use any irritants such as Retin-A, retinol, Benzoyl Peroxide or astringents.
Post Treatment Symptoms
You may experience redness and bruising from 5-14 days after treatment.
If any crusting occurs, apply aloe vera gel or an antibiotic ointment.
