Filler Patient Care Instructions

Pre-Treatment Instructions

  • Please plan 1-2 weeks of no major events in case you bruise or swell.

  • Avoid alcohol 24 hours prior to treatment.

  • Begin taking an antiviral prescription if you are prone to cold sores.

  • Avoid any non urgent dental procedures performed 2 weeks before or after injections.

  • No vaccine administration for 2 weeks before or after filler injections.

Post Care Instructions

  • You may gently apply ice for short periods of time to any bruises or areas of tenderness.

  • After 12 hours, light make-up and skin may be washed with a gentle cleanser. Resume other skincare after 3 days.

  • Sleeping - position yourself to minimize pressure on the treated areas.

  • Lip filler - avoid using lip products such as lip balm, lip gloss, lip sticks, etc for 24 hours after treatment.

Things to Avoid

  • Minimize strenuous activities for 24 hours.

  • Avoid touching the treated area and any exaggerated facial expressions for 12 hours after treatment.

  • Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense sunshine, extreme heat (sauna, sun tanning) or extreme cold.

  • Avoid any non urgent dental procedures performed 2 weeks after injections. No vaccine administration for 2 weeks following filler injections.

Post Treatment Symptoms

  • Bruising, slight bleeding, redness, swelling, tenderness and/or an itching sensation in the treated area which goes away after a few days.

  • Lip Filler - Swelling may last about one week and lips can look somewhat uneven during this time. This means that the result immediately after treatment should not be looked upon as the final result.

  • If you have a history of cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to a breakout. Discuss with us prescribing an antiviral to prevent breakout.

Your next appointment

  • Please return to the clinic at your 2-3 week mark for your follow up appointment and follow up photos.

When you should call us

  • Report any sharp shooting pain, changes in skin color to an area that can look pale (blood flow not getting through), any pimple-like lesions to the treated area(s), or changes in vision. Report any other worsening/unusual symptoms.
